Luis Gutierrez Quitting Congress …

The Democrats’ leading pro-amnesty legislator, Chicago Rep. Luis Gutierrez, is quitting Congress, according to a Chicago TV station, NBC 5.
The station reported Monday evening:
NBC 5 has learned congressman Luis Gutierrez will announce Tuesday he is not running for re-election after 24 years on Capitol Hill, sources say. Guitterez telephoned key democratic leaders late this afternoon to let them know of his plans. Calls to Guitterez tonight have not been returned.
Gutierrez’s departure comes as his allies recognize the sinking prospects in 2017 for a no-strings “clean Dream Act” for 3 million illegals, including the 690,000 ‘DACA’ beneficiaries
In 2013 and 2014, Gutierrez was the leading Democratic pushing for House approval of the unpopular “Gang of Eight” amnesty-and-cheap-labor act.
For example, he worked closely with Rep. Paul Ryan to fashion a secret amnesty- bill — even though the amnesty push was so unpopular that it cost Chuck Schumer nine Democratic seats plus the Senate majority in November 2014.
But Gutierrez’s 2017 push for a December amnesty- is being blocked by hostile polls, Donald Trump’s immigration principles, top-level GOP opposition and tepid backroom support from Democrats.
For example, an aamnesty for young illegals is a “top priority” for only 23 percent of American voters who identify as Independents, says a November poll by Morning Consult and Politico. The no-strings amnesty was strongly opposed by 16 percent in the November survey, and likely by many of the 23 percent of people who say they have no comment or don’t know.
Also, a November 27 report by the McClatchy news service included an admission by an amnesty proponent that the push for a December amnesty is losing ground:
“Two months have now passed, and I’m sad to report that we’re arguably further away from a solution today than we were then,” said Neil Bradley, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s chief policy officer.
Bradley is a former top policy staffer who worked for GOP leaders, including Rep. Kevin McCarthy and Rep. Eric Cantor. Bradley lost power when the 2013 “Gang of Eight” push backfired and prompted Cantor’s shock primary defeat.
Amnesty advocates mourned Gutirrez’s departure.

Washington to Black America: Stop Blaming the Prison System

Veteran actor Denzel Washington says his latest role as a dogged defense attorney in Roman J. Israel, Esq. reinforced his belief that black men “can’t blame the system” because we make it “easy work” when it comes to filling America’s prisons.
Veteran actor Denzel Washington says his latest role as a dogged defense attorney in Roman J. Israel, Esq. reinforced his belief that black men “can’t blame the system” because we make it “easy work” when it comes to filling America’s prisons.
“It starts at the home. It starts at home. It starts with how you raise your children. If a young man doesn’t have a father figure, he’ll go find a father figure,” the Academy Award-winner told reporters at the Dan Gilroy-directed film’s New York premiere, the New York Daily News reports.
“So you know I can’t blame the system. It’s unfortunate that we make such easy work for them,” Washington said.
The 62-year-old Hollywood heavyweight told reporters that the subject of how fatherless young men fall into a life of crime and incarceration is a personal one.
“I grew up with guys who did decades (in prison), and it had as much to do with their fathers not being in their lives as it did to do with any system,” said Washington, whose character finds himself working in the overburdened Los Angeles criminal court system. “Now I was doing just as much as they were, but they went further.”
“I just didn’t get caught, but they kept going down that road and then they were in the hands of the system,” the actor added. “But it’s about the formative years. You’re not born a criminal.”
Roman J. Israel, Esq. co-stars Colin Farrell, Carmen Ejogo, and Carmen Amanda Warren and opened in theaters everywhere on Nov. 22.

Donald Trump dismisses report claiming Melania wanted him to lose presidential election

Vanity Fair report quoted friends of Ms Melania Trump saying she didn’t want to be First Lady ‘come hell or high water’
Donald Trump has dismissed a report that claimed First Lady Melania Trump did not want him to win the 2016 election.
The President took to Twitter this morning to write that Ms Trump “always thought that ‘if you run, you will win,'” in response to a Vanity Fair story that asserted she did not want or expect to be in the White House.
He referred to Ms Trump as a “great and very hard working First Lady”.
Mr Trump tweeted that his wife “truly loves what she is doing,” despite the magazine story citing a “longtime friend” of the family saying Ms Trump “didn’t want this come hell or high water.”
He then retweeted Ms Trump’s official First Lady Twitter account twice in the span of a few minutes – tweets that contained pictures of a smiling Ms Trump with children at the White House and one tweet of a video of her joyfully preparing decorations for the Christmas holiday with staff.
The magazine’s report said the family friend said: “This isn’t something she wanted and it isn’t something he ever thought he’d win.”
However, Mr Trump has asserted in the past and in his tweet today that he felt he would beat Hillary Clinton, which was the reason he entered the race.
Whether she wanted her husband to become leader of the free world or not, the magazine reported that “permanent staff of the White House adore the First Lady. Part of the affection may be due to the fact that, unlike the Obamas, Melania is accustomed to dealing with a staff.”
Of course, Mr Trump has not been a fan of most media coverage of his presidency, less so of his family; he frequently uses the term “fake news” in tweets and speeches.
And Ms Trump launched a fierce rebuttal of the Vanity Fair report on Monday night. A statement to CNN from a spokesperson for the First Lady said the story was “riddled with unnamed sources and false assertions”.
“As a magazine tailored to women it is shameful that they continue to write salacious and false stories meant to demean Ms Trump, rather than focus on her positive work as First Lady as a supportive wife and mother,” it added.
The First Lady has been surrounded by her own share of controversy since Mr Trump began his presidential bid.
She stood by her husband when the now-infamous “Entertainment Tonight” audio leaked of Mr Trumpbragging about sexually assaulting women and saying “when you’re a celebrity they let you do anything” during the campaign.
There were also nude images of Ms Trump that splashed the cover of the New York Post at the height of the campaign, remnants of her former modelling career.
Family friends have said that now the First Lady’s focus is shielding their young son Barron from any further “unfriendly” media coverage of his parents.

Oprah Winfrey: “White Older People Have To Die”

This clip shows her racist side.
Oprah believes that older white people are the problem with America today, and that they need to die so that racism can end.
“There are still generations of people, older people, who were born and bred and marinated in it, in that prejudice and racism, and they just have to die,” she says proudly in this interview.
Welcome to Obama’s America…

Caroline Heldman, The Accuser Of Eric Bolling, Just Issued The Following Statement

Caroline Heldman has issued to following statement on her Facebook page regarddng Eric Bolling
And this one is shocking. Among her claims, Bolling referred to her as “Dr. McHottie” four times.
Just suspended Eric Bolling pending allegations that he sent inappropriate photos of his genitalia to female colleagues. My only surprise is that it took this long for people to come forward about Bolling’s behavior, which has been wildly inappropriate for years.
I did hundreds of appearances on Fox and Fox Business from 2008 – 2011, and had multiple experiences with Bolling that caused grave concern to my friends and family. Bolling referred to me as “Dr. McHottie” on air on four different occasions, and called me “smart, beautiful, and wrong” on air twice. I pushed back with “Mr. McSexist,” but I shouldn’t have had to. This on-air behavior was perfectly acceptable to Fox executives at the time
Bolling would also contact me via phone and text after shows, sometimes to apologize for his behavior (and then do it again), and sometimes just to talk. He said he wanted to fly me out to New York for in-studio hits and to have “fun.” He asked me to have meals with him on several occasions, but I found excuses not to go. Once, he took me up to his office in New York, showed me his baseball jerseys, and in the brief time I was there, let me know that his office was his favorite place to have sex. I know other women have had similar experiences with Bolling, which means that lots of folks at Fox knew about his behavior well before 2017.
Bolling was one of three men from whom I experienced sexual harassment and gender discrimination (the others being Bill O’Reilly and Woody Fraser)
O’Reilly was creepy in person; told me “when I was in college, professors didn’t look like you”; then called me “hysterical” during a show, edited the interview, and retaliated by never having me on his show again.
Fraser took me under his wing as a mentor; constantly pressured me for a relationship and sex; took an idea for a show that would become The Five (I emailed Fraser a treatment that is remarkably similar to The Five, right down to some of the hosts, a year before The Five aired); dangled a contributorship and a hosting position for a sexual relationship; then stopped my appearances when I didn’t acquiesce to his advances.
Fox News guests are also quite a problem. In 2010, I consoled a make-up artist (who no longer works for Fox) after Gene Simmons sexually harassed her, and this was not his first time doing so. On March 20, 2011, Lenny Dykstra persistently asked me to a party and told me that he gets “sexually aroused when I talk politics.” He also harassed the make-up artist who was curling my hair at the time.
Make-up artists at Fox are contract workers, so many are fearful of speaking up because they simply won’t be hired again. If any Fox executives are reading this, please include make-up artists in your assessment of the environment. They see and hear a lot, and are sometimes the target of harassment from hosts and guests.
There are a lot of great people working at Fox, many of whom I admire and respect to this day, but there is also a culture of sexual harassment that has not fully been addressed. I have faith that, given recent decisions to fire and suspend perpetrators, the new management will effectively shift this culture.

MEDIA Air Force Officer Who Witnessed Attack On Seals Who Killed Bin Laden Just Said We Have All Been Lied To

Highly decorated Air Force officer is breaking her silence about the disturbing incident that occurred back in 2011 that marked the deadliest attack on Navy SEALS in U.S. history. She claims that Obama’s administration covered up what happened to 38 of our warriors in Afghanistan, when a Chinook helicopter crashed and killed 38 fighters. She says had it not been for Obama changing the rules of engagement of our military to protect Muslim terrorists, that our men would still be alive today.
To give you a full appreciation for the absolute atrocity and borderline treason that went down that fateful day on August 6, 2011 at the hands of Barack Hussein Obama, Retired Air Force Capt. Joni Marquez is telling her story first hand. She and her crew were working the dark morning hours on their AC-130 gunship when they were summoned to conduct a mission she describes “as almost like a 9-1-1 type of a situation.”
Circa reported:
The gunship was ordered to fly close-in air support above Afghanistan’s dangerous Tangi Valley, in Wardak Province, assisting troops with the Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment who were being fired on by eight heavily armed Taliban insurgents.
The Rangers had called in for assault helicopters to engage the enemy hiding among the rocky valley. The air weapons team fired on the Taliban fighters, but not all of the insurgents were killed as originally believed.

In her first interview since the incident, Marquez recounts what she witnessed that night as she was the fire control officer aboard the ship. Her job that night was to ensure the sensors on the weapons were aligned, so that the her crew could hone in on the terrorists’ targets:
“I had the sensor operators immediately shift to the eight insurgents the helicopters had taken out,” Marquez told Circa. “Two were still alive.”
But what should’ve been a routine mission to take out the terrorists never happened because Obama’s generals would not give the gunship permission to fire. She relayed the scene to the ground force commander, but was denied permission to neutralize the threat.
“We had seen two of them (insurgents) moving, crawling away from the area, as to not really make a whole lot of scene. You have two enemy forces that are still alive,” she said. “Permission to engage.”
Marquez went on to say that the ground commander’s refusal to not allow her crew to take out the two terrorists with their weapons would then seal the fate of those involved in Extortion 17.
Now with no way to take out the threat, Marquez and her team were left with little options other than tracking the two enemy insurgents with the surveillance equipment. She watched helplessly as they made their way through an open field, then to a village where they began to rally more terrorists to join the fight. Circa went on:
Meanwhile, a CH-47 Chinook helicopter, with the call sign Extortion 17, was called into the hours-long firefight.
U.S. Central Command’s official investigation concluded that a rocket-launched grenade from a Taliban fighter hit the Chinook and sent the helicopter into a downward spin. The crash killed all 38, including thirty Americans and eight Afghans. Seventeen of the U.S. servicemen were Navy SEALs. Months before, SEALs were made famous for the killing of Osama bin Laden.
“If we would’ve been allowed to engage that night, we would’ve taken out those two men immediately,” Marquez said. She believes with her whole heart that had her team been given permission to take out the terrorists, 38 warriors would still be alive today.
“They continued to essentially gain more and more force behind them because they just kept knocking on doors,” she said. “And the two personnel that initially fled ended up becoming a group of 12 people.”
What’s even more insane is that pleas and warnings from her crew to return the Chinook back to base and cancel the mission before the terrorists began firing just fell on deaf ears by the commanders.
“Whenever we reached out to the Joint Operations Center, they would essentially just push back with, ‘Find a, a good infill location. Find a good helicopter landing zone,’” said Marquez, adding that by the time Extortion 17 was coming in, everything was mired in confusion.
From there, things just got even worse. The Chinook was eventually shot down by the terrorists and crashed to the ground. Marquez watched from her infared monitor as one of the Navy SEALS was then ejected from the burning Chinook helicopter. She watched his heat signature fade from red to blue, knowing that she was watching as his life literally slipped away from his body.
“We had to sit and watch that, and I think that was one of the hardest things that I had to do,” she said. “That man was, you know, dying on the ground.” Marquez says the pain of living with what happened has taken its toll and she was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and is in therapy.
Her account of that fateful day has been corroborated by the Defense Department inspector general in a previously sealed top-secret report. Her own commander also has verified the story has true.
“If we would’ve been allowed to engage that night, we would’ve taken out those two men immediately. I mean, it’s just one of those things where you know that it could’ve all been prevented,” she said, tearing up at times as she recollected that night.
Thirty-eight of our warriors are dead and there is one single person to blame, and that is Barack Hussein Obama, the treasonous POS who sent these warriors straight to their deaths that night. It was because of HIS asinine updates to our military’s rules of engagement back in 2009 that essentially gave precedence to the lives of Muslim terrorists over our own military forces
“Ridiculous rules of engagement that basically state that you can’t shoot until being shot upon. A weapon has to be pointed, and essentially fired at you, in order for you to shoot and you have the proper clearance so that you don’t, you know, go to jail, that you’re charged with a war crime,” said Marquez, who had reached out to Congress, and some of the victims’ families.
In the end, Marquez hopes that people will share her story and help expose the truth of what happened that night in the hopes that changes will be made to our military’s rules of engagement that will save lives in the future.
“I won’t rest until some kind of justice is served, in a manner of either, you know, the people that were responsible for that night, for making those calls, come forward and are honest about it,” Marquez said. “I know that’s kind of a lofty goal but, if that’s something that doesn’t happen, then obviously the ROE’s to change, for them to be realistic.”

This Black Guy Messed With The Wrong Guy’s Wife… BOOM! Check What Happens In Just Few Seconds!

This big man at some outdoor dining place learned this the hard way when he allegedly dropped offending words to or about an attractive blonde, who happened to be with her husband.
he offended husband confronted the man, who appeared to be quite proud of what he did.
The wife tried to intervene and stop her husband from taking it further, saying the whole things not worth it.
The husband was having none of it and when the defiant man refused to back down and instead emphasized that he was indeed talking about the wife, the husband grabbed a bottle and showed the bully what happens to men who talk s*** about another man’s wife.
Don’t ever speak ill about another man’s wife, not even if you look bigger and stronger than him. You never know what you gonna get. Warning: STRONG language

REPORT: Kim Jong Un Killed In Trump’s Overnight Black Op Attack On North Korea

President Trump decided to go ahead and do what no other president has had the stones to do last night and launched a covert campaign to eliminate the threat of North Korean nuclear and conventional weaponry.
An independent source at the Pentagon is confirming for us what the mainstream media won’t until they’ve figured out an angle to make Trump look bad: North Korea’s military is in ruins and not a single civilian was hurt.
The reporter who managed to get the story told LLOD:
“A cute little airman whose name I won’t disclose confirmed that Admiral Fitzwallis gave the order to go to 17 SEAL teams on the ground covertly in North Korea. In three hours time, the entire military infrastructure of that country has been eliminated.
This was no joke. This was calculated and perfectly executed. According to the airman, North Korea is brighter now than it ever has been at night because “it is currently on fire.”
Now reports are coming in from sources on the ground in Pyongyang that Supreme Leader and all-around nitwit Kim Jong Un has been killed in the action. Immediately afterward, Kim was spotted on radio giving a death to America speech that was recorded several years ago, but the actual dictator hasn’t been spotted.
From the Presidential Palace, crews are working on a colla[psed section of the building that houses the living quarters of Kim and his family.

Eric Bolling Finally Broke His Silence About His Son’s Death, Will You Pray For Him?

It has been a gut-wrenching past few days for former beloved Fox News host Eric Bolling. He first learned this past week that he had been fired by executives at Fox News who claimed that he was a sexual harasser.
Far worse, Bolling then discovered that his only son, Eric Chase Bolling Jr., was found dead. Ninteen year old Chase has been studying for a degree in economics at the University of Colorado, Boulder. The elder Bolling finally broke his silence and gave a public statement about his son’s untimely death.
Said Eric via his Twitter account, “Adrienne and I are devastated by the loss of our beloved son Eric Chase last night. Details still unclear. Thoughts, prayers appreciated.”
He then detailed about his son’s death, the cause of which is still unclear, “Authorities have informed us there is no sign of self harm at this point. Autopsy will be next week. Please respect our grieving period.”
Condolences have been pouring in from Eric’s friends and colleagues from all parts of the political spectrum. Wrote Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera, “Gut-wrenching news about  19-year old only son Eric. Erica and I weep for the Bolling family This is horrible, our condolences.” Added CNN’s Don Lemon, “So awful. My heart goes out to Eric and his family.” Posted Fox News’ Sean Hannity, “To my dear friend, please know we all love you, will be here for you and your family.” Will you pray for Eric Bolling?

Trump Just Did The Most INCREDIBLE Thing For Florida That Will Save Lives From Irma

It’s remarkable how hard the media tries to bring our President down, despite the overwhelming evidence that he is doing a great job!
And that includes what he has done for Texas in the wake of Hurricane Harvey and what he is doing for Florida as it braces against Hurricane Irma.
Watch this raving review of our President’s performance:
Professor Caroline Heldman thinks Trump did a great job with Harvey, and he continues to bring relief from that hurricane.  She says “we are starting to see him shine.”  She went on to say that he is doing “an exceptionally good job” regarding hurricane relief.
According to Florida Governor Rick Scott, Trump talks with him “pretty much every day.” And Trump told him “I will provide whatever resources you need.”  Scott himself has said that “we will spare no expense to save every life in this state.”
So, together, Trump and Scott are determined to do whatever is necessary to save lives in the midst of this second natural disaster to hit our sweet country in the past few weeks.
If you agree that Trump is doing an exceptionally good job, comment, “great job, Mr. President” and  brag about our President by Sharing this Everywhere.

President Trump To End DACA – With Six Month Delay

President Trump ended the Obama-era program that grants work permits to illegal immigrants that arrived in this country illegally with their lawbreaking parents or guardians, according to Politico’s Eliana Johnson, who cites “two sources familiar with his thinking.”

Sunday, Senior White House aides met to discuss the rollout of one of the President’s key campaign promises – ending DACA.
The President spent months mulling over the decision of whether or not to get rid of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, known as DACA. A number of anti-Trump GOP members attempted to deter the President from scrapping the program, but the law must be upheld and abnormalities and ways in which people cheat the system should not be rewarded as other Americans lose out to jobs children of illegal immigrants get to have . . . Not to mention diversity quotas that basically guarantee they get hired over other Americans.
President Donald Trump has decided to end the Obama-era program that grants work permits to undocumented immigrants who arrived in the country as children, according to two sources familiar with his thinking. Senior White House aides huddled Sunday afternoon to discuss the rollout of a decision likely to ignite a political firestorm — and fulfill one of the president’s core campaign promises.
Conversations with Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who argued that Congress — rather than the executive branch — is responsible for writing immigration law, helped persuade the president to terminate the program, the two sources said, though White House aides caution that — as with everything in the Trump White House — nothing is set in stone until an official announcement has been made.
In a nod to reservations held by many lawmakers, the White House plans to delay the enforcement of the president’s decision for six months, giving Congress a window to act, according to one White House official. But a senior White House aide said that chief of staff John Kelly, who has been running the West Wing policy process on the issue, “thinks Congress should’ve gotten its act together a lot longer ago.”
the news is from http://usaconservativereport.com/2017/09/president-trump-end-daca-six-month-delay/

One way or the other, the post-party presidency is coming

You’d have to think that some part of President Trump was relieved to be in Texas this week — to finally be confronting crisis rather than creating it, to be demonstrating some unity rather than driving people further apart.
Of course, Trump being Trump, he somehow managed to speak at a briefing in the middle of a major disaster zone without once mentioning the victims of the hurricane, which he had already admitted to exploiting for its TV ratings.
“What a crowd!” Trump exclaimed upon leaving his event at a firehouse, where 1,000 Texans had gathered for what he seemed to think was an impromptu rally. “What a turnout!”
Back in Washington, though, there were no tributes — only a growing sense, now openly discussed in both parties, that Trump’s hold on the office is proving increasingly tenuous. Rebuked by congressional leaders for his tolerance of white nationalists and for a controversial pardon, abandoned publicly by some members of his own Cabinet, Trump is fast becoming the Tom Hanks of presidents, stranded on his own little political island, futilely throwing coconuts at the wall.
His approval rating, now stuck at around 35 percent in a series of polls, opens the door wide not just to a tumultuous midterm election season, but also to a long and unpredictable presidential campaign after that.
By this time next year, unless something major changes, every third Democrat in Washington will be lining up to form an exploratory committee. But the more interesting maneuvering may be in the Republican Party, where I’m betting we’ll see more than one serious primary challenger step forward. (I’m looking at you, Marco Rubio.)
And then there’s the unlikely, emerging partnership between two idiosyncratic and popular governors named John — Kasich, the Republican from Ohio, and Hickenlooper, his lesser-known Democratic colleague from Colorado — who have begun acting very much like a possible bipartisan ticket in recent weeks, holding a series of events around health care. They’re set to preview their reform plan in interviews today.
Whether or not John Squared holds any real promise as a presidential campaign tandem (and we’ll get to that in a moment), the whole thing raises a larger question that I find highly relevant in the post-Trump moment.
Is America ready for an independent presidency? And should our two fossilized parties be a lot more worried about it than they are?
Well, all right, that’s two questions. But they get to the same central idea.
In full disclosure, I’m probably not the guy you should turn to first if you want a disinterested answer to all this. I’ve been relentlessly harping on the potential for an independent president pretty much since I started following politicians around the country 20 years ago. When all you’ve got is a hammer, everything starts to look an awful lot like a nail.
I happened onto the political scene as a writer in the moment just after Ross Perot — a demonstrably disturbed person who announced that Republicans had tried to ruin his daughter’s wedding — managed to score 18 percent of the vote as an independent candidate promising to balance the budget.
For several years afterward, I spent a lot of my time in the company of politicians like Jesse “the Body” Ventura, the independent governor of Minnesota who for a time seemed like a formidable presidential contender himself, and John McCain, who back then captivated the country by taking on both party establishments.
(Yes, millennials, that John McCain. Go look it up in Wikipedia, and stop expecting the rest of us to do all the work for you.)
I absolutely thought Colin Powell had a chance to win the presidency as an independent in 1996, before he removed himself from contention. I was less convinced by a potential candidate I met in 1999 — some billionaire with the last name of Trump.
Here’s what I came to believe back then, and what I have written many times since: America has no use for a third party, since most of us aren’t all that enamored of the two we already have. But that’s a different thing from a truly independent bid, undertaken by someone (or a couple of someones) who dispenses with primaries and breaks the party paradigm altogether.
My sense, still, is that we’re a lot closer to seeing that kind of campaign succeed than anyone in Washington really imagines, just as we were a lot closer to the hostile takeover of a national party than anyone thought before 2016.
Over the last 20 years, during a time in which the emerging digital culture has weakened just about every institution in America, the grip of the two parties on our political system has loosened considerably. Our politics may feel more polarized between ideological camps, but that’s mostly because the parties are
controlled by an ever-winnowing group of diehard activists who present the rest of us with stark, binary choices.
The country’s openness to more alternatives, as measured by the number of Americans who identify themselves as politically independent, has never been more palpable, or more consistent with the way we live our lives generally.
In a very real sense, Trump’s insurgent campaign represented a kind of independent movement inside the Republican Party, which he effectively occupied and then replaced with his family brand. He obliterated the outdated belief that party loyalty matters anything near as much as personality.
Meanwhile, the two principal and related barriers to entry for an independent candidate — the money needed to run a competitive race and the arcane ballot laws that vary wildly by state — have been made vastly less onerous by the spread of broadband.
Sure, it’s still not easy to organize a state-by-state ballot-access drive, or to raise hundreds of millions of dollars. But it’s way easier than it ever was before, and if anyone still buys the myth that money is the driving force in a national campaign, they should study this last election. It turns out free TV time and social media followings are exponentially more valuable.
Which brings us back to Kasich and Hickenlooper, whose flirtation with a bipartisan ticket was reported last week by Axios’s Mike Allen. That really shouldn’t have surprised anyone, not least because Kasich’s closest political adviser is John Weaver, whom I met when he was openly exploring the same thing for McCain in 2000. Weaver has long been a fellow traveler when it comes to upending the system.
(In an interview last week on “Meet the Press,” Kasich, who came away from the last campaign with something of a national following, tried to brush aside questions about a joint ticket, and finally said it wasn’t happening. Which I’m sure is true — at the moment.)
Personally, I find Kasich and Hickenlooper to be among the more genuine and compelling characters in politics today. Neither man is going to be carried along in the prevailing currents of their parties, which are headed toward ideological stridency and confrontation. That makes running in primaries a dubious option.
The problem for the two Johns, should they get serious about a historic joint venture, is that neither of them commands the kind of celebrity coverage that would follow, say, Kanye West or Mark Cuban. And neither of them is a
billionaire like Mike Bloomberg, who briefly considered his own independent bid in 2016 (and probably wakes up every day wishing he had a time machine).
They’d have to build a large, grassroots organization of moderates, which is never easy, and they’d have to hope that the two parties ultimately rally around Trump, on one side, and an ideologue like Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren, on the other.
It’s not a high-percentage bet, to be sure, but neither would I call it crazy. It might also be good for the country.
The larger point here, though, is that even by playing with the possibility, these guys are on the vanguard of something. Whether it’s a couple of governors like Kasich and Hickenlooper, or more likely some TV celebrity we haven’t even thought of yet, the nonaligned presidency is probably inevitable, and it could happen as early as 2020.
Yeah, I’ve been saying that forever. It just happens still to be true.
